April is Here! An Overview.

By Howard - Posted on 04 April 2009

Hey everybody!

We in Northern Colorado are all pretty well covered in wet, heavy white stuff right now, but it's not time to pack it in because the weather forecast says it'll warm up again soon.

The Northern Hypoxian crew has organized and participated in two Time Trial Wednesdays. The weather for the next TTW on April 8 is looking quite promising, so we should be able to get back to some 11.7-mile racing at 6:30 p.m.

What is TTW, you ask? It's a group race where we stagger/handicap everyones start so everyone might theoretically finish the 11.7-mile course together. Two weeks ago, the finishers all came across the finish line within 50 seconds of each other! (Nevermind that there were only three of us. It worked! And it's a lot of fun!) Here's a Bikely link to the route.

On Saturday, April 11 at 10 a.m., GlassCat is hosting the South Side Social Ride. There's plenty of information on his thread at this link. BalticTiger and Howard will be participating.

Next, the Rocky Mountain Cycling Club starts its brevet season this month, beginning with a 100K ride on Sunday, April 12 at 9 a.m. from the 160th Ave. exit at I-25 to Brighton, Hudson, and Keenesburg and back. It's part of the new RMCC Challenge Series 1-2-3, where each rider rides a 100K, a 200K, and a 300K brevet series, keeping track of time so that the lowest cumulative time wins. (Completion times of brevets are typically recorded, but they aren't usually competitions. This one is if you want it to be.) I'll be doing and racing in that series. Here is a link for the Challenge Series, including a map and queue sheet for Sunday's ride.

The following Saturday, April 18 is the Horsetooth and Beyond 200K brevet. Deadhead and I have done that ride the past two seasons. Hope more of you can join in. Here's a link to the brevet schedule.

Finally, to fill out your April in a big way, on Saturday, April 25, I'll be hosting the 3rd Annual Club Hypoxia Stove Prairie Trainer. That ride starts from our house at 10 a.m. and will be a metric century with SOME climbing ( ;-D ). It's a fun day in the foothills west of Fort Collins because it's a no-drop ride with friends.

How did April get here so fast?!
